Abstract
Sequences of digitized cilia video images are analyzed. The images are obtained using a Control Data Corporation video camera through a microscope. The resulting sequence of frames is analyzed for the frequency of cilia motion, the synchronization of the beating motion, and the parameters of the metachronal wave. Both nonparametric and parametric power spectral estimation techniques are used. The results lead to the conclusion that parametric estimation techniques yield better estimations. The beating frequency, wavelength, wave direction, and degree of synchronization were found.
