Abstract
The patient group consisted of 20 consecutive admissions of drug-free schizophrenic patients. Lumbar CSF was obtained and cyclic nucleotides, cAMP and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), were measured. Diagnosis of simple schizophrenia, slow first remission, poor intermorbid adjustment, young age of onset, and absence of hallucinations are all significantly associated with increasing CSF cAMP. CSF cGMP was not significantly correlated with any clinical variable.
