Abstract
The increasing use of hazardous pesticides to control plant diseases has threatened the stability of many ecological systems. A promising alternative to the use of the pesticides is that of biological control. Plant symbiotic bacteria are excellent root colonizers and this suggest their use as biocontrol agents. To date, symbiotic bacteria have not been used as biocontrol agents because they lack the ability to control plant diseases. Introduction of genes involved in the biocontrol mechanisms into plant symbiotic bacteria could generate new and efficient biocontrol agent.
