Cloning of NaCl-regulated genes from cultures of jojoba nodal segments by differential display RT-PCR

Abstract

Jojoba (Simmondsia chinesis) is a salt tolerant evergreen perennial shrub native to the Sonoran Desert. We are using Differential Display Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (DDRT-PCR) to isolate NaCl regulated genes from jojoba variety 64, by comparing genes expressed in nodal segments grown in cultures in the absence or ? presence of NaCl. We have isolated several cDNA clones representing genes whose expression is either increased or decreased by the salt treatment.
