Abstract

We used Monte Carlo simulations to study optimal configuration of bremsstrahlung converter for photonuclear production of 99Mo. To account for details of bremsstrahlung photons production and energy dependency of photonuclear reaction cross section we introduced a new metric – the effective bremsstrahlung efficiency criterion. Monte Carlo simulations using PHITS transport code showed that converter optimization using this criterion allows to achieve 2–2.8% increase in 99Mo production in a thick radioisotope producing target.
