Abstract

The dynamic properties of cross-gain modulation (XGM) within the inhomogeneously broadened gain spectrum of an InP quantum dash optical amplifier operating at 1550 nm were examined. The nature of the XGM dynamics was confirmed by spectrally resolved optical modulation response measurements in quantum dash lasers. The major difference between the two spectra was the blue shift observed at room temperature, which was absent at 100 K.
