Abstract

Magnetization measurements of polycrystalline NdCo2 are reported as a function of temperature (4.2 to 200 K) and magnetic field (0.2 to 26 koe). Anomalies in the temperature dependence of the magnetization are attributed to a [110] to [100] spin rotation around 40 K. Single‐ion crystal field calculations which reproduce the experimental results are presented. These yield a (2.3 ± 0.1) μB Nd3+ moment, 25 < A4 < 40 K α 0−4, and −0.088 < A4/A6 < −0.068 α 0−2 in NdCo2.
