Abstract
Transmission electron microscopy was used to study the crystallization behaviour of some RAu (R = Gd, Tb, Dy and Er) vapour-deposited amorphous thin films. For nearly equiatomic compositions, crystallization of the CsCl-type RAu compound takes place in the temperature range 190-240°C. A further temperature increase leads to the allotropic transformation of this structure into the CrB-type structure. The deviation from equilibrium and some aspects of the kinetics of the crystallization process are discussed.
