Abstract

Some authors have suggested local or topical treatments for cutaneous leishmaniasis (2). Such therapeutic modalities should never be considered alone in the cutaneous form of L. braziliensis infection, since a lesion can spread and metastasize, and systemic treatment is therefore necessary. Physicians should be aware of the mucocutanaeous variety of leishmaniasis and should consider it each time the epidemiological circumstances are suggestive.
