Abstract

The various steps of the design of tensegric shells are studied. The selection of the tensegric net and fitting it to a tensegric shell of a desired configuration is discussed. The effect of prestressing the shell: the forces induced into the members of the shell and the nodal displacements, are investigated. It is shown that linear algebra can be used to determine the nodal displacements as well as the forces induced by the prestressing. Minimum distortion of the tensegric shell due to prestressing is considered.
