The operation and evolution of infrared imaging systems were described. The systems provided a radiation map of viewed objects by analyzing the object temperatures and emissivities. The multispectral mercury cadmium telluride (MCT), antimony-based materials, quantum well infrared photodetectors and uncooled microbolometer detectors were the four technologies in use for their fabrication. A comparison of their performances was also presented.
