Abstract

The paper describes the R-curve and J-integral experimental procedures following the ASTM standards as well as modified analysis in order to determine Kc and JIC. In addition, a 2-dimensionl finite element analysis was used to calculate JIC. The values of crack opening displacement and JIC obtained by the finite element method were slightly lower than the experimental values. The chemical composition of the 7075-T651 alloy was in wt%; Mg-2.6, Zn-6.3, Cu-1.9, Cr-0.24, Mn-0.3, Si-0.5, Fe-0.7 and Al-bal.
