Abstract

The e.s.r. method has been used to determine at 77 K the depth of submergence (r) of the main functional components of the reaction centre of photosystem II in thylacoid membranes. It is shown that for P680+, pheophytin (pheo-) and Z+ the magnitude r is respectively 2-4, 4-7 and 14-20 Å. From these and the published data the authors propose a model of the disposition of the components of the reaction centre of photosystem II in the photosynthetic membrane.
