Abstract

The sampling of random floods for the analysis of environmental isotopes in flood water is handicapped by the fact that this water may partially evaporate between the time of the flood and the actual collection of the sample. Conventional methods of sampling are frequently ineffective, as floods occur at random both in time and space. With these considerations in mind, we designed and built an instrument that enables automatic sampling of flood water. The sample is hermetically sealed, and secondary effects that could change the original sample in any way are thus avoided.
