Abstract

To date a significant interest is being focused on the development of new die casting alloys for high temperature applications, especially for the automotive industry. This interest relates mainly to powertrain components such as gearbox housing, oil pan, transfer case, crankcase, oil pump housing, intake manifold and others. These parts operate at various elevated temperatures and therefore enhanced creep resistance and bolt load retention properties are essential for adequate performance. Unfortunately, the common alloys of AZ and AM series are not suitable for manufacturing drive train parts operating at temperatures higher than 130 °C.
