Abstract
Measurements of optical absorption on LiF:Mg,Cu,P powders and single crystals are described. The absorption spectra for the powders and the single crystals are very similar. The dominant feature is the F centre while absorption in the region of 300-400 nm is related to the presence of Mg. The thermal stability properties of the radiation-induced bands can be correlated with the production of TL and are similar for both powders and crystals. Absorption features due to Cu and P are not observed. The absorption intensity is seen to vary with the Mg,Cu and P contents in a similar fashion to the TL sensitivity.
