Abstract
Experiments of absorption of oxygen in hemoglobin solutions, and red blood cells suspensions were performed in a liquid jet. The experimental setup was tested by absorbing carbon dioxide and oxygen in water. Experiments were done also absorbing oxygen into isotonic saline solutions, and the resulting values of diffusivity, D = 2.09 × 10-5 cm2s/s were very close to those of oxygen absorption into water. Diffusivities of oxygen in hemoglobin solutions were obtained in the concentration range 5-20g% (grams per 100 cm3 blood) and the results were slightly lower than those obtained by other methods and reported in the literature. Experiments on red blood cell suspensions indicate the validity of the model proposed by Stroeve et. al. [15].
