Abstract

The experiments reported here are a by-product of our amyloidosis research. The capacity of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to dissolve amyloid fibrils in vivo prompted us to test its efficacy on lipid deposits in experimental atherosclerosis of the rabbit. Though preliminary, and lacking detailed lipoprotein studies, the results appear encouraging. We hope that the experiments will be repeated and extended by groups specializing in the research of atherosclerosis.
