Abstract

An expert system for nuclear engineering allows the engineer to find good configurations to refuel reactor cores, and enables the researcher to discover new refueling configuration synthesis heuristics far more easily than without this tool. The latter use makes this investigation interesting not only for configuration problems in engineering, but also for machine-learning in the framework of artificial intelligence, provided that the importance is recognized of delimiting the environment as being a system consisting not just of software on its own, but of both the program and the user.
