Dodecagonal tilings as maximal cluster coverings

Abstract

The characterization of quasiperiodic and 12-fold symmetric Socolar tiling was discussed with respect to maximal covering of the tiling by suitable pair clusters. The dodecagonal Socolar tiling depicted the highest weighted cluster density in presence of a mild constraint on the cluster weights. The difference between results obtained and those obtained from Ammann-Beenker tiling required two covering clusters for the dodecagonal Socolar tiling whereas one cluster was sufficient for octagonal tiling.
