Abstract

The novel four impinging streams (FIS) and multistage two impinging streams (TIS) reactors were investigated as efficient tools for effecting gas-solids operations. Some aspects of their hydrodynamics and heating and mixing performance are discussed. The FIS reactor is shown superior to conventional and one-stage TIS reactors for solids mixing, and its solids drying performance is shown to improve for increased solids load. The parameters obtained for a stochastic model, employed to describe the particle residence time distribution (RTD) in multistage TIS reactors, are related to reactor operation parameters.
