Abstract
A study was conducted on the dynamic response of a titanium carbide (TiC)-carbon steel, ceramic-metal composites. A copper impactor with velocity in the range of 80-450 m/s was used. The pressureless infiltration of TiC ceramic performs by molten steel resulted in the formation of the composites. It was found that the dynamic response of the composites was controlled by choosing an appropriate thermal treatment.
