Dynamic response of viscoelastic laminated plates

Abstract

The dynamic response of viscoelastic laminated plates subjected to impulsive loading is investigated. The Fourier transform of the Boltzman representation of the viscoelastic phases is incorporated into a micromechanical analysis, which establishes the five frequency-dependent functions characterizing the effective behavior of unidirectional fiber composites. First-order as well as two high-order shear deformation theories are used for the investigation of the laminated plate's response. The inversion of the response function into the time domain is performed by the Fast Fourier Transform algorithm. It is shown that the viscoelastic behavior is significantly different from the elastic one. Comparisons between the results obtained from the various theories are discussed.
