Abstract

The post buckling behavior of imperfect columns made of linear viscoelastic materials is investigated within the elastica theory, taking into account the effect of the strain in the neutral axis. The material is modeled according to the Boltzmann superposition linear viscoelasticity. A solution is developed in order to calculate the growth in time of the total deflection, and to establish the importance of the column compressibility while analyzing its postbuckling behavior.
