Abstract

The elastic moduli of polycrystalline rare earth-iron Laves compounds RFe//2 (R equals Ce, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho and Er) and YFe//2, have been determined by means of an ultrasonic pulse technique at a frequency of 10 MHz, between 4. 2 and 300 degree K. Anomalies in the elastic moduli have been observed in CeFe//2, SmFe//2. The experimental data presented permit gaining some insight into the peculiar magnetoelastic behavior of these compounds.
