Abstract
The minimal coupling of a membrane to external electromagnetic vector potentials is governed by its charge-current three- vector. The latter is derivable from a "statistical" gauge field living on the world-manifold. The exclusive spherically symmetric internal configuration is magnetic-monopole-like, intriguingly interpreted as a genuine electric monopole by an outside observer. Electric-charge quantization then follows provided no internal Dirac point singularity exists. The emerging Dirac-type model cannot tolerate a "statistical" Chern-Simons term.
