ELECTRO-TRANSPORT OF LARGE ORGANIC ANIONS THROUGH ANION EXCHANGE MEMBRANES.

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

The rate of electromigration of large anions through an anion exchange membrane and changes in the electrochemical properties of the tested membrane were studied. Three different large organic anions were tested: Dodecylbenzenesulfonate (D. B. S. ) (M. W. 347. 45), and two pH-indicators known as Methyl organe (M. W. 327. 34) and Congo red (M. W. 696. 67). It was found that the first two compounds can pass through an anion exchange membrane at very low electrical efficiency, but the Congo red compound is too big to traverse an anion exchange membrane. The changes in the electrochemical properties of the membrane differed in each case.
