Abstract
Polymeric films of tetrakis(o-aminophenyl)porphyrins (abbreviated H2(o-NH2)TPP) and their cobalt, iron and manganese analogs were obtained by reacting the aniline groups with nitrite ions in an acidic medium. The electrocatalytic properties of the chemically polymerized (CP) Co(o-NH2)TPP films towards O2 reduction and CP-Fe(o-NH2)TPP towards the reduction of nitrite ions are described and compared with those reported in the literature for the reduction of dioxygen by electropolymerized (EP) films of Co(o-NH2)TPP and for nitrite reduction by dissolved and electropolymerized iron porphyrins. It is also shown that CP-Mn(o-NH2)TPP films mediate the electro-oxidation of glucose oxidase. Amperometric measurements conducted with glucose electrodes based on these films show that the current is linearly proportional to glucose concentrations up to 6 × 10-2 M. This linearity range is two orders of magnitude higher than that previously reported for Mn(o-NH2)TPP and enzyme both immobilized in colloidal graphite.
