Abstract

Ion exchange resins were introduced between permselective membranes in a laboratory scale electrodialysis unit. It was found that by this method polarization is substantially decreased, and high electrical efficiency can be obtained even when working on highi/c values (1000-5000) and at low linear velocity of solution (1-2 cm/sec) in the cell. Different ion exchange resins were introduced in the diluate and brine cells and the boundary conditions of such a stack were determined.
