Abstract

3D position controllers have been developed to prevent dynamic instabilities which limit high temperature electrodynamic levitation applications. Requiring no AC stabilization, the controllers enable particle suspension at the center of the combustion chamber with position instabilities less than 1% of the particle diameter. All forces applied to the particle can be measured simultaneously. The method is illustrated with a particle exposed simultaneously to radiation and forced flow.
