Abstract
Nuclear quadrupole resonance can be observed if the electric-field gradient at a nucleus created by the electron shell of a paramagnetic ion and its crystallographic environment differs from zero. The necessary conditions for the appearance of an electric-field gradient at a nucleus are found by the group-theoretic classification of the spins of trimer antiferromagnetic clusters with half-integral spins of the ions in transition metals.
