Abstract

The single crystal electronic spectra at ambient temperature in the visible region are reported for tethered donor-acceptor molecules. The isostructural and isomorphic crystals possess similar electronic spectra with three major transitions in the observed region: a TCNQ molecular transition, a charge-transfer transition characteristic of weak electron-donor-acceptor crystals and a transition polarized along the stacking direction of the TCNQ moieties. The latter can be rationalized as arising from incipient band formation.
