Abstract
In the various discrete methods proposed in the past as substitutes for the unrealistic elastic approach in determining the energy, and the displacement field around a dislocation, the effects of ″noncentral″ forces and ″remote neighbors″ are neglected. The present study is an attempt to incorporate both effects in a modified discrete approach. In a numerical example, the energy of an edge dislocation of a sodium crystal was found to be about 3. 74 multiplied by 10** minus **1**2 erg. The displacements obtained are smaller, compared with the elastic results.
