Abstract
Energy transfer from Cr3+ to Nd3+ in mullite glasses and glass-ceramics was investigated at 10 and 300 K. Nd3+ and Cr3+ emissions were observed using time-resolved laser spectroscopy in the spectral range 640 to 880 nm, and the energy-transfer mechanism was determined. Further information on the dynamic processes was obtained from the decay rates of 2E and 4T2 states of Cr3+ and those of the 4F 3 2 level of Nd3+ in glasses and glass-ceramics.
