Abstract
The various benefits of the use of software packages in enginering problem solving are discussed. The preparation, coding and debugging of the mathematical model can be separated from that of the solution algorithm while teaching numerical methods. This enables solving complex and realistic problems increasing the students' motivation to learn CPBS techniques. The existence of a solution for the problem can help in identifying weak points of the basic algorithm.
