Abstract

EGS5 is a general purpose MC code currently developed at KEK (Japan). EGS5 is based on the well-known EGS4 code and contains some important improvements. The main advances of the EGS5 code include improvements in electron transport mechanics, elimination of PRESTA’s boundary crossing logic and automatic step-size optimization algorithm. The purpose of this study is to validate the EGS5 code for the simulation of electron beams from an Elekta Precise linac as a preparation for further work including simulation of an IORT electron applicator in use at our institution
