Estimating the Effect of Atrocious Events on the Flow of Tourists to Israel

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter presents a statistical analysis of the impact of terrorism and war on the decline of inbound tourist arrivals. The examination was carried out using data for tourism, wars, and terror events in Israel between 1966 and 1996. The study did not support the hypothesis that the long-range tourist flow to Israel is obscured by the many disturbances caused so often by atrocious events. On the contrary, the long-term trend of demand for tourism in Israel appears to overwhelmingly override disturbances caused by wars and terrorist actions.
