Abstract
When a superheated fluid is driven out through an orifice to a low pressure space, the fluid pressure abruptly drops and depending on the initial conditions, nucleation of vapor bubbles may occur on the orifice walls (heterogeneous nucleation) or in the liquid bulk (homogeneous nucleation). The bubbles undergo a rapid expansion process, which under some circumstances results in a rapid disintegration of the liquid bulk into small droplets (atomization). For a homogeneous nucleation, the vapor bubbles grow rapidly one towards the other, and when they touch each other the liquid layer between two adjacent bubbles is torn apart and a spray with small and uniform droplets is generated. According to Sher and Elata (1977); Sher and Zeigerson-Katz (1996), it's seems that the efficiency of the homogenous flash boiling process is very low. In this work, we analyze this process and analyze it for possible energy losses.
