Abstract

Operating a computer terminal is currently an integral part of daily work of both administrative and medical personnel in every hospital. Extended work with video display terminals (VDTs) is often characterized by typical symptomatology termed as cumulative trauma disorders (CTD) or repetitive strain injuries (RSI). We have demonstrated that about 80% of the hospital VDT operators had complaints compatible with CTD/RSI and 16% were treated for these conditions. These findings indicate the meed to incorporate ergonomists in planning or modifying current VDT work stations in order to minimize the development of such symptoms.
