Abstract
Khadirarishta, an Ayurvedic Arishta preparation, was investigated for unwanted microbial contamination. E. coli and Candida albicans were most commonly found pathogens. Chitraka (Plumbago zeylinica), Twaka (Cinnamomum zeylanica), Karpura (Cinnamomum camphora), Jeeraka (Cumin cyminum) and Sankha Bhasma (a calcium preparation) were investigated for their positive effect on contamination, Jeeraka (Cumin cyminum) and Sankha Bhasma (a calcium preparation) were found to be effective to check the unwanted pathogens.
