Abstract

A proposed automation system is outlined, designed to supervise and control an exothermic batch chemical reactor such as to guide the reaction rapidly and safely to substantial completion. The algorithm combines feedback control and expert system logic, including learning, to mimic operator actions, avoiding explicit use of a process model. Implementation on a simulated plant indicate excellent adaptivity. (A)
