Abstract

Turbulence intensity and energy spectra were investigated experimentally in mercury flows in a 2 multiplied by 4. 8 cm**2 rectangular cross section duct subjected to a transverse magnetic field. Velocity fluctuations were measured by means of a quartz coated hot film probe at Re equals 78. 5 multiplied by 10**3 and 0 less than equivalent to Ha less than equivalent to 785. The results obtained made possible a number of conclusions related to turbulence suppression and structure changes and to energy transfer mechanisms.
