Abstract

Six experimental diets prepared by three different methods were tested as initial food for larvae of Coregonus lavaretus L. After 5 weeks the mean length and dry weight of larvae held at 11 and 14°C and fed the best experimental food were respectively 17.6 and 19.2 mm and 3.25 and 3.95 mg. Percent survival varied between 22 and 55%. The largest larvae completed metamorphosis at 14°C whereas metamorphosis was almost completed at 11°C. At the end of the experiment fish were easily weaned from artificial diets to living zooplankton.
