Abstract
The out-of-plane free hole mass and the long-distance asymptotics of the localized hole wave function in La2CuO4 are shown to be substantially affected by the subtle changes in magnetic ordering, in magnetic fields which are both parallel and perpendicular to the copper oxide planes. This explains the unusually large magnetoconductivity and the magnetic field dependence of the dielectric constant at the corresponding phase transitions.
