Abstract

Exploratory search of scientific literature plays an essential part of a researcher's work. Efforts to provide interfaces supporting this task accomplished significant progress, but the field is open for further evolution. In this paper I present four basic design concepts identified in exploratory search interfaces: relevance, diversity, relationships and categories, and propose a novel browsing layout featuring a unique combination of these concepts (see Figure 1).
