Abstract
Extraction equilibria in the citric acid-water-n-octanol and citric acid-water-n-hexanol systems were investigated at 298. 15 K. The proposed partition mechanism includes formation of the complex, H//3Cit(H//2O)//4(ROH)//4, with the equilibrium constant K equals 0. 102 for n-octanol and K equals 0. 237 for n-hexanol. Activities of alcohols in the organic phase and activity coefficients of citric acid in water were determined by a numerical integration of the Gibbs-Duhem equation.
