Abstract

Dimethylsulfoxide, 2-cis-butene-1, 4-diol, 1, 2-butanediol, 2-propanol, acetone, methanol, and acetamide, were considered as potential extradants of fatty acids from jojoba, soybean and olive oils. Ternary liquid-liquid phase diagrams at 298.15 K, and the corresponding distribution and selectivity coefficients of oleic acid are reported. Of the investigated solvents, only dimethylsulfoxide and methanol have the desirable extraction characteristics of distribution constant greater than 1 and high selectivity to serve as extradants of fatty acids.
