Abstract

The spectra of HCl and DCl molecules trapped in a nitrogen matrix were studied in the 100-250 cm- spectral region. Two absorptions were observed for each species: at 154 and 207 cmt̄1 for HCl and at 132 and 162 cm-1 for DCl. These absorption showed monomeric behaviour. They are assigned to libration-translation motions of the isolated HX molecule in the nitrogen matrix.
