Abstract

An operator for discrimination between textured and homogeneous regions in images is proposed, and a fast algorithm for its computation is described and analyzed. The operator sets the center pel of each K multiplied by K window to be the difference between the maximum and minimum gray levels of pels within the window. The algorithm was implemented on a DeAnza IP8500 image processing system. A second algorithm is presented which works on any rectangular K prime multiplied by K double prime window. Experimental results are presented.
