    Abstract

Mediterranean countries are characterized by their unique climatic and environmental conditions, which enable off-season cultivation of a wide variety of flowers. These advantages coupled with relatively low labor costs in some countries favored flower export from this region to European consumer countries. This review describes the current situation of floriculture business in selected Mediterranean countries, with emphasis on the Middle East. Current trends in flower production in relation to the world ornamental trade are discussed.
